Have a Try to Make a Little Change in Mint Julep
We’re still on the road to learning to make cocktails for a better experience with our ice. It’s surprising that we found that Mint Julep is worth exploring and definitely we don’t want to miss it. What’s different is that we decide to make a change in the recipe, so we do not just follow the recipe as usual. The Gevi team is young and likes new things and changes, not only in cocktail making but also in our products.
What exactly is the Mint Julep? It’s a kind of classic bourbon cocktail with a few ingredients, such as Kentucky bourbon, fresh mint, and sugar syrup, and easy to make at home. Kentucky bourbon is one of the most important ingredients in Mint Julep and is closely related to the Kentucky Derby, a legendary horse race held on the first Saturday in May.
In the spring season, the Mint Julep is served in Louisville and is an indispensable drink for fans when watching the race, which means a lot to a Derby celebration. In order to find out the magic of the Mint julep, we attempt to make it ourselves.
Ingredients
- 2 1/2 oz Kentucky Bourbon
- 2/3 oz Simple syrup
- 10 fresh Mint leaves
- 10 fresh Mint leaves
- Pellet ice
- Mint sprig for garnish
Steps
- Prepare all ingredients.
- Place the mint leaves and the simple syrup in a rocks glass.
- Lightly muddle the mint leaves well.
- Add the bourbon cocktail.
- Pack the glass lightly with pellet ice.
- Stir well and garnish with a mint sprig.
Originally, the Mint Julep requires crushed ice to mix all the ingredients, but we have made a little change. We replace crushed ice with our pellet ice because nugget ice can better maintain optimum frost, which creates a more refreshing flavor. With lots of air pockets, chewable pellet ice can chill the Mint Julep quickly but won’t dilute the cocktail compared to crushed ice. You are able to crunch the ice when enjoying the Mint Julep, feeling the coolness in your hand, mouth, and mind and it gives a totally new experience.
Try to muddle lightly the leaves, not tear them because they can release the oil and aroma, important for the cocktail. Mixing the mint with the simple syrup gives out a sweet and refreshing flavor, which better balances the strength of bourbon.
If you want to discover the magic of it, try to make it for yourself and witness how the combination of the ingredients serves the ultimate refreshment. It’s certain that the Mint Julep is typically enjoyed on celebration days. However, don’t worry, you can enjoy it whenever the mood strikes. Welcome to share your ideas with us.
